Musical Instruments 1! The Trombone!

So biweekly i will be updating and informing everyone who cares about all different types of musical instruments. Many people claim they are deeply into music but how far? I am going to go in depth on instruments from around the world, and complex forms already existing and well known in the united states today. To begin this week I will be analyzing THE TROMBONE which is my personal favorite. This instrument is made unique due to the complexity of its style. Lacking a scientifically placed note fingering, the trombone player ultimately learns the best way to position his or her slide as close as they can to the actual note they want to play. With minor adjustments the trombone player will move his slide further out or further in depending on how sharp or flat they may be. There are many forms of the trombone but specifically right now im discussing the tenor trombone which is the most basic and lacks an F attachment Trombone which i will discuss in later weeks. The tenor trombone to the left displays the main parts of the trombone and list 2 main characters i haven’t discussed yet: the tuning slide and the water key. The tuning slide allows the trombone player to pre determine their intonation in term of being sharp of flat, every instrument has its own form and every player must learn how to use it. The water key, is also known as the condensation key is where built up moisture inside of the slide will build up and eventually make a gurgle sound you will want to dispose of. Obviously the mouthpiece is where you blow air through the instrument and the bell is where the sound comes out. Hope you enjoyed this weeks ENLIGHTENMENT, come read next week!
